One Health

The “Venezuelan Science Incubator” through its various networks is committed on following the “One Health” approach in all of its operational research and clinical programs. The “One Health” concept recognizes that human health is intimately linked to animal health and the environment.

Human and animal health, as well as the environment, are part of an indivisible conglomerate that operates in a permanent balance. Thus, the “One Health” approach promotes the collaborative efforts of the human health, veterinary health, and environmental health communities working at all levels, to achieve optimal health for people, animals, and our environment.

In Venezuela, the “One Health” concept has become of utmost importance in recent years because of the ongoing humanitarian crisis were many factors such as the collapse of healthcare infrastructure and a tumbling economy have precipitated an ever-increasing movement of people in context of the refugee crisis. In addition, an increase in illegal mining activities has precipitated an unprecedented environmental destruction leading to irreversible ecological disruptions, which have caused the emergence and re-emergence of many infectious diseases.
